Raptor Shield is made from Polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is the material typically used in bulletproof windows. The slick surface of the Raptor Shield does not provide a hold on your dog for the bird. The bird can't use their talons to pick up the dog. The Raptor Shield gives you precious seconds to grab your dog.

Note: Raptor Shield deters birds of prey; it will not replace you and the leash. All precautions hold when dealing with deadly birds.

A professional Naturalist has examined raptor Shield at a local Illinois Forest Preserve District and determined that the talons of a Hawk and any other Raptor would not be able to penetrate the Raptor Shield material and injure the dog. In addition, Raptor Shield’s colors are a deterrent to hawks and other birds of prey.

Raptor Shield gives limited protection from animal bites too. The material doesn't let another animal clamp onto your dog's back.

Raptor Shield comes with an extension for dogs that don't fit the standard length and adjustment clips for weight gain & loss, so it always works correctly.

We also include our Comfort Jacket. This jacket is specifically to fit inside the Raptor Shield shell to provide no chaff comfort. The jacket functions as a liner and is not removable.

Please note the sizes are by dog weight. The straps adjust up or down depending on your dog's size.

Because of the solid nature of this Shield, your dog will need time to adjust to it. It's like breaking in a new pair of shoes. Your dog needs to become accustomed to wearing a solid object. The easiest way to ensure your dog adjusts to wearing the shield is to put it on them in the house and treat or praise them a lot while wearing it and not making a fuss. Once they become accustomed to the shield, you can let them out to potty with you whenever you want, wearing the shield.
